Denmark
Located in Scandinavia, Denmark comprises numerous islands and the Jutland Peninsula. Linked to nearby Sweden its stunning capital, is home to some iconic landmarks including the royal palaces, the colourful Nyhavn harbor, as well as the charming Tivoli amusement park and of course, the “Little Mermaid” statue.
Denmark's history in Europe started with the Viking Age, in approximately 800 AD, when the Danes famously began plundering churches and monasteries. By 878 the Danes had conquered the majority of the north and east of England. By the 11th century, King Canute (1014-35) ruled over a vast kingdom that included much of Scandinavia and England. Christianity was introduced to Denmark in 826 and flourished during Canute's reign. After his death, his empire disintegrated.
Denmark is one of the oldest states in Europe and the oldest kingdom in the world. The current monarch, Queen Margrethe II, in situ since April 1972, belongs to the oldest lineage in Europe, dating back to early 900 AD.
The Danish language originates from a northern section of the Germanic language group, and has a resemblance to other Scandinavian tongues. Denmark's most famous author is Hans Christian Andersen, who has written many fairy tales, which have been translated into more languages than any other book except the Bible. Other famous Danish authors include Karen Blixen, who penned "Out of Africa" and "Babette's Feast"; and Theologian and philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, a forerunner of modern existentialism.
This amazing Nordic country is known for its sturdy engineering, architecture, food, fashion, art galleries and museums, castles and palaces, and truly world-class cities. It is a wonderful place to visit.

Packing advice:
In general, casual jeans, trousers, and shirts or T-shirts are appropriate, as are dresses and skirts. Shorts are fine in summer, but warm weather is never guaranteed, so it's smart to pack layers. Year-round, a waterproof coat and comfy walking shoes are an absolute must.
Cultural differences:
Denmark is an egalitarian society and this is reflected in their language, which uses gender-neutral words. Danes are often modest about their achievements and worry about the group rather than their own individual needs. Men are generally actively involved in child-rearing activities, more than in many other countries. Danes are courteous and believe there is one proper way in which to act in any given circumstance, which is to adhere to the rules.

Tipping:
Locals in Denmark are not used to tipping. Under the Danish law, service charge (including gratuities) is already included in the bill.
