Introducing Our New Tours For 2020

Here, at Andante Travels, we like to start the new year with a new destination (or three!) and 2020 will be no exception. We are delighted to announce that we have three exciting new tours on the horizon for the next 12 months, which can take you from Russia to Sri Lanka and on to Algeria. Wondering what each of these new archaeological adventures includes? Read on…

Algeria | Roman Mauretania

Still considered to be one of the least-visited countries in the world, Algeria (pictured above) is home to some staggering ruins that simply beg to be explored. Access to the country’s ruinous Classical cities is now easier than it has been for some years, which is why we jumped at the chance to offer a tour there in 2020. The sites are a palimpsest of Numidian, Byzantine and Roman remains, and include the best-preserved colonia anywhere in the Empire – Timgad. At the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Timgad, the entire town’s layout survives, retaining its playing-card shape and strict grid of streets. It really is a sight to behold and we’re excited to be able to take you there in the new year.

Russia | Culture, History & Archaeology on an Epic Journey

Join Professor Alexei Leporc, former Curator of 19th and 20th prints at the country’s Hermitage Museum, on this 13-day tour of Russia. Starting in Moscow and ending in St. Petersburg, you’ll also pay visits to Suzdal, Vladimir and Novgorod in between. Take a walking tour of Moscow’s iconic buildings and locations, explore the renowned treasures of the Hermitage as well as artefacts housed within its store rooms, and pay a visit to the Troitsky excavation site, where items of archaeological significance have been uncovered over the years. Other stops on this all-encompassing tour include the Kremlin, Catherine’s Palace with its reconstructed Amber Room, and Yusupov Palace – the site where Rasputin was murdered.

Sri Lanka

A country that has endured some turbulent times, Sri Lanka still remains one of the most enchanting of all to visit. Our 15-day exploration takes in a variety of experiences, from the spiritual to the historic – and even the natural. Witness a puja ceremony at the famed Temple of the Tooth, climb Kasyapa’s citadel of Sigiriya and enjoy unforgettable views and explore the UNESCO-listed Golden Temple of Dambulla. In fact, we visit a total of six UNESCO World Heritage Sites on this tour. Other memorable encounters range from a chance to witness a performance of the country’s traditional Kolam dance, time to visit a batik workshop, and a visit to the Labukelle Tea Estate, where we are also able to sample the delicious tea produced here.
