Visa:
British citizens do not require a visa to visit Switzerland for tourism purposes and U.S. citizens are permitted to stay up to 90 days in the country – within a 180-day period – without having to apply for or obtain a Schengen visa.
Currency:
The currency used throughout Switzerland is the Swiss Franc.
Packing advice:
Switzerland is fairly liberal when it comes to clothing. The weather will dictate your wardrobe choices as the summers can get very hot, but temperatures plummet in the winter. A raincoat is advisable and it’s smart to pack layered clothing because the temperature can vary depending on your altitude.
Language:
There are four official languages of Switzerland, which are French, Italian, German and Romansh. Different regions will see different languages being the most used. English is often well spoken in Switzerland.
Cultural differences:
Swiss culture is rich and heavily influenced by its neighbouring countries France, Italy and Germany. It is one of the world’s wealthiest countries and is known for its delicious chocolate, cheese, watches and army knives.
Tipping:
In Switzerland, if a service charge is already added to the bill then tipping is not necessary. If a service charge is not applied, a tip of between 5-10% is recommended.
