Visa:
UK Citizens will need to obtain a visa ahead of travelling to Cambodia. Check the Royal Cambodian Embassy, or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Co-operation website for the latest information on fees, conditions and photograph requirements and on how to apply for an e-visa. US citizens will also need a visa for any travel to Cambodia. This can be sorted online prior to travel.
Currency:
While the Cambodian Riel is used in small denominations (for change), the US dollar is the official currency of Cambodia.
Packing advice:
Strong sunscreen is advisable as Cambodia is hot and we would also recommend that you bring comfortable sandals or walking shoes. Avoid tight-fitting clothing as this might be seen as disrespectful and instead opt for light layers, which will be ideal for tours that involve visiting places of religious significance.
Language:
The official language of Cambodia is Khmer, thought to be spoken by around 90% of the population.
Cultural differences:
A mostly Buddhist country, Cambodian people are kind, considerate and compassionate, and follow traditions. Religion has inspired much of the culture here, and this can be seen in the many temples, depictions of Buddha and pagodas. Visitors should respect the culture, dressing modestly and covering up while entering buildings of religious significance, not showing affection in public and not pointing or touching the heads of others.
Tipping:
It’s not customary to tip in Cambodia, however tips are always enthusiastically welcomed.
