World Tourism Day

Today is World Tourism Day. This annual event, according to the UN, fosters "awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value."

The team at Andante Travels have been working hard for three decades now – as you'll know, 2020 marks our 35th anniversary – to bring you enjoyable, immersive and fascinating ancient-world adventures led by renowned experts in archaeology and history. The events of this year have impacted absolutely everything about what we do, from how we operate tours to how we approach travel. However, we are still here.

We are incredibly grateful for our valued and loyal guests, and always so happy to welcome new travellers into our family. Our world is a great one and there are many stories to tell, which is why we strive to be adaptable and reactive in the face of adversity. We hope that our new measures, which are outlined below, provide you with a sense of reassurance when you choose to travel in our company, and we will always do our very best to give you the most memorable experiences on tour.

A statement from the UN on World Tourism Day explains: "The COVID-19 pandemic represents an opportunity to rethink the future of the tourism sector, including how it contributes to the sustainable development goals, through its social, cultural, political, and economic value. Tourism can eventually help us move beyond the pandemic, by bringing people together and promoting solidarity and trust – crucial ingredients in advancing the global cooperation so urgently needed at this time."

What's more, to cater for our guests' worries during these challenging times, we have also now introduced the possibility to do our tours independently and with self-drive options. Find out more about these new ways to travel here.

UK-based tours in the 'Rule of Six' era

If you're eager to get back out there and explore what our fair isle has to offer, we have tweaked our UK-based departures to ensure they can still run under the new 'Rule of Six' era, as recently outlined by the government. To make sure we are complying with guidelines, guests booked on our UK-based tours will now be split into mini-groups of five, each of which will be accompanied by its own expert guide lecturer. The times for visiting key attractions will be staggered and the mini-group arrangement will remain in place in restaurants and hotels.
