Russia Is Ready To Receive You In 2020

Experience culture, history and archaeology on an epic journey through Russia with us this year. This magnificent country has been steadily growing in popularity and we decided that 2020 was the perfect year to design a tour that will take you there.

A vast destination, we couldn’t create a Russian itinerary without considering a range of themes and factors to explore. From its multi-coloured domed cathedrals to the incredible treasures housed within the Hermitage, and from the historical town of Novgorod to a working excavation site – there is so much to uncover, which is also why we decided to make it an all-encompassing 13-day adventure.

Starting out in Moscow, this tour gets underway with a walking tour of the city and its famous sights, from the Red Square and St. Basil’s Cathedral, to Lenin’s Mausoleum and the State Tretyakov Gallery. On Day 4, we’ll pay a visit to Suzdal’s unique open-air “living village” – the Museum of Wooden Architecture and Peasant Life; on Day 11, there’s a visit to Yusupov Palace with its sumptuous rich interior, which was also the site of Rasputin’s murder; and – another real highlight – on Day 12, we return to the already-visited Hermitage for a specially arranged tour of the storage rooms.

What else can you expect? Well, there will be visits to the Spassky Monastery, the 12th century Assumption/Dmitrievsky Cathedral, the Kremlin, the Troitsky Excavation Sie, the Peter & Paul Fortress, the historic centre of Vasilyevsky Island, the Grand Palace at Peterhof, Catherine’s Palace with its reconstructed Amber Room, and also Tsarskoye Selo. To top off your cultural experiences in the city, you can also look forward to a canal boat ride at the end of Day 11.

As you might imagine, the hotels for this tour are of very high standards. We spend 5 nights at the 5* Kempinski Hotel Moika 22, a Petersburg mansion designed by Dutch engineer Basil von Witte in 1853; 2 nights at the 4* Radisson Park Inn Veliky Novgorod; 2 nights at the Pushkarskaya Sloboda Hotel, part of which is a charming collection of traditional Russian wooden cabins; and 3 nights at the Radisson Collection Hotel Moscow.

Both departures of this tour – September 2020 and then May 2021 – will be led by Professor Alexei Leporc, who worked as curator of 19th and 20th century prints at the world-renowned Hermitage Museum.
