On December 18th, the exciting new Death on the Nile film will be released. The movie has an impressive cast, including Kenneth Branagh, Gal Gadot, Sophie Okonedo, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders and Annette Bening. As you’ll know, the movie is based on the 1937 novel of the same name by the legendary Agatha Christie. For those not familiar with the story, it’s an unfolding of an intoxicating murder mystery, with a passenger on board the S.S Karnak Cruise Ship being found dead. Detective Hercule Poirot is then called on to identify which of the fellow passengers is the killer, ideally before they strike again. You can watch the trailer below.

We have created two exciting new tours for 2021 that focus on Agatha Christie. The first, departing on May 13th and then again on 4th August, is Agatha Christie & the English Riviera. The second, departing on 18th May and then on the 9th August, is Agatha Christie & Max Mallowan in London.
Agatha Christie & the English Riviera
During this tour we focus on Agatha’s life in Devon. We meet in Torquay and explore the sites of the area where Agatha was born and lived in for many years since her childhood, and which she used as a source of inspiration for many of her books. Visits on this four-day tour range from the Agatha Christie exhibition at the Torquay Museum, which was developed by the very guide lecturer leading the trip, to Greenway House, the Gregorian Mansion Agatha Christie and Max Mallowan called their home for many years.

Agatha Christie & Max Mallowan in London
Agatha met archaeologist Max Mallowan during a visit to an archaeological site in Ur, near Baghdad. Despite being almost 14 years her junior, they fell in love and then married in the September of 1930, only six months after first becoming acquainted. This tour sheds light on both the archaeological work of Max Mallowan, with finds from his excavations on display in the British Museum, and Agatha Christie’s life in London, viewing some of the places she lived at, worked at or used as inspiration for settings in her books.

Agatha Christie and Egypt
The film itself is set, rather unsurprisingly, in Egypt. You might be interested to know that Christie wrote Death on the Nile at The Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan (pictured below), a location that we actually see on both our Highlights & Discoveries tour and Egypt - Off the Beaten Track tour. Aswan was Christie’s favourite place in the whole country and her writing desk, the one she used while writing the novel, now takes pride of place in the Old Cataract Hotel’s lobby.

Our adventure starts in Cairo then on to Luxor, followed by a Nile cruise to Aswan aboard the MS Tulip. The grand finale of this journey will be our visit to Egypt’s most impressive temple site, Abu Simbel. Other highlights include access to both the grand gallery and royal burial chamber of the Great Pyramid of Khufu, and a visit to the enigmatic Valleys of the Kings & Queens.

The monuments of ancient Egypt are unmissable, but the best-known can be teeming with visitors. This tour takes you ‘off the beaten track’ to rarely-visited sites. Still spectacular, these sites are of the utmost archaeological importance. Geographically, culturally and historically comprehensive, this tour will take you all the way from Cairo to Aswan.
