Andante can now take you to each of the New7Wonders of the World

We are excited to announce that with the launch of our new Cultural Journeys tour range, Andante now has tours that visit each of the New7Wonders of the World – a momentous achievement in this, our 35th anniversary year.

Andante Travels can now take you to all of the New7Wonders, after introducing our brand new tour of Brazil to our impressive collection of trips. This new addition to our roster means that you can visit the Great Wall of China, Petra in Jordan, Rome’s Colosseum, Chichén Itzá in Mexico, Peru’s Machu Picchu, India’s Taj Mahal, and finally Brazil’s Christ the Redeemer on a variety of trips, both from our classic archaeology range and from our new selection of Cultural Journeys tours.

The New7Wonders were chosen by people from all over the world in a campaign that began back in the year 2000. Winners were announced in 2007 and selected from a list of 200 celebrated monuments.

For the ultimate bucket list, it’s possible to take each of the seven tours within 2020, ticking off all New7Wonders in the space of just one year. A suggested running order could be:

  • India tour that includes a visit to the Taj Mahal: 30th January – 16th February
  • Jordan tour that includes two days in Petra: 4th – 13th March
  • China tour that visits the iconic Great Wall: 14th – 30th May
  • Rome tour that includes a Colosseum visit (Hidden Rome): 5th – 11th June
  • Brazil tour that visits the Christ the Redeemer statue: 13th – 25th August
  • Peru tour that includes a Machu Picchu visit: 23rd September – 10th October
  • Mexico tour that visits the site of Chichén Itzá: 2nd – 17th November

Brazil – Christ the Redeemer

Visit this iconic statue as part of our brand new Cultural Journeys Brazil itinerary. Departing next August and again the following February, this 13-day tour offers an authentic exploration of this magical country, from its frenetic Rio Carnival (February 2021 departure only) to the world’s largest urban forest at Tijuca National Park, including a visit to the UNESCO-listed Christ the Redeemer. Other experiences on this new tour include a tasting of caipirinha, a cookery class where you will learn to make moqueca, a samba dancing class, and an introduction to the Brazilian martial art of capoeira. 13th – 25th August and 15th – 27th October, 2020, and then 18th February – 2nd March, 2021. 13 days from £4,995pp.

Great Wall of China

Part of our extensive tour of China includes a visit to the Great Wall itself. The original wall dates back to the 2nd century BC, but the majority of it was built and extended during the Ming Dynasty in order to keep warring Mongol nomads at bay. Elsewhere, there’s a chance to visit the underground army of the life-sized Terracotta Warriors, time to explore Luoyang with its 1st century Buddhist temples at the Longmen Grottoes and a tour of the Garden of the Humble Administrator. 14th – 30th May, 2020. 17 days from £5,495pp.

Petra in Jordan

While most tour operators spend just one day exploring Petra, Andante Travels offers you two full days there – and in the company of an expert. Both days’ visits to Petra include optional hikes to the Nabatean ‘Monastery’ and ‘High Place’. Our Petra & the Desert Fortresses tour also offers a chance to explore the painted tomb at Little Petra, a lesser-visited site. This trip also features a 4x4 cruise through the lunar-like scenery at Wadi Rum’s desert, a visit to the crusader castle at Kerak and time to experience weightlessness in the Dead Sea. Multiple departures throughout 2020. 10 days from £3,145pp.

Rome’s Colosseum

With Andante, there are numerous ways to ‘do’ Rome. For travellers on a budget, there is the Bare Bones – Essential Rome tour, which is 5 days long and runs from just £695pp. For a fuller tour, led by an expert and including more site visits along with flights and meals, try the Rome – The Heart of the Empire tour, or opt for something different with the Hidden Rome tour, which features a special underground tour of the Colosseum, visiting subterranean parts that many tourists never get to see. Tours to Rome depart throughout 2020 and start from just £695pp.

Mexico’s Chichen Itza

Entering the Chichén Itzá site early means that you will get the most out of it before tourists descend. Marvel at the immense Ball Court and Temple Pyramid at the heart of its enormous plaza, and follow the stone causeway to the sacred ‘cenote’, into which the Maya people cast jade, precious metalwork and even sacrificial victims. This tour also includes a journey by 4x4s and then boat to the remote site of Yaxchilán, time to explore the beautiful city of Palenque and a chance to encounter enduring Maya traditions among the Chiapas communities. 2nd – 17th November, 2020. 16 days from £4,945pp.

Peru’s Machu Picchu

Descending on the site of Machu Picchu in the later afternoon and then returning again early the following morning, you should avoid the busiest periods with this extended tour by Andante. Other highlights include the chance to take a flight over the enigmatic Nazca Lines, a visit to the Inca capital of Cuzco with its Temple of the Sun and time spent with a local family who will both teach and demonstrate to your group traditional Peruvian weaving methods. 29th April – 16th May and 23rd September – 10th October, 2020. 17 days from £6,295pp.

India’s Taj Mahal

No tour of India is complete without a visit to the legendary Taj Mahal, built by the Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. On this all-encompassing tour of Northern India, you will discover this memorable site along with others, which include the Amber Fort and a series of temples. There is also the chance to witness a sunset aarti ceremony on the steps of the Ganges, enjoy regional cuisine throughout this tour and observe some of the world’s finest temple carvings at Khajuraho. 30th January – 16th February and 1st – 18th December, 2020. 18 days from £4,845pp.
